Chicken Coop To A Human Coupe
by Bangalore Architecture on Facebook
The design brief was to convert an old disused chicken shed into a bachelor residence. The industrial nature of the building complete with truss-work & sheet roofing was to be retained with minimal construction or disruption.
The free-standing black wall is the only major construction which divides the living & the bedroom areas offering a total sense of privacy.
Most of the elements were salvaged such as the wood from machinery packing crates, the steel from a scrapyard & the bathroom tiles were “rejects” as they were not of uniform colour.
The house being a whole of 800 sft is totally lit with 33 LEDs consuming electricity equivalent to 2 of 40w incandescent bulbs. Light reflectors made from sheet metal & finished with metallic reflective paint were designed to add to the ambiance of the house. The lights were grouped in such a way that different parts of the house could be lit depending on which part of the house was occupied.

Minimal furniture is almost bordering on the “spartan” which provided for the clean smooth & uncluttered spaces.
